What is Zinc Coating?
Zinc coating is a process of electrolytic application of Zinc on substrate metals – steel, in most cases – to prevent it from oxidation. Besides the obvious implication of corrosion resistance, heavy Zinc coating has wide-ranging applications across industries that make Zinc the fourth-most widely used metal in the world.
Protection against corrosion:- The principal benefit of Zinc coating is its efficacy in staving off the oxidation of underlying substrate metals, thereby protecting them from rust and corrosion. Its high corrosion-resistance makes it a far more effective tool than Cadmium and Tin. Zinc acts as the first line of defence that protects the underlying steel from external elements.
Low initial cost compared to most treated steels. In addition, galvanized steel is immediately ready to use when delivered. It does not require additional preparation of the surface, inspections, painting/coatings, etc. sparing companies more costs on their end.
Longer life. With galvanization, a piece of industrial steel is expected to last more than 50 years in average environments, and can last over 20 years with severe water exposure. There is no maintenance required. The increased durability of the steel’s finished product also increases the product’s reliability.
